About NGI

NGen Impact was created in 2016 and is based in Vienna.

The back story is a bit complicated. I studied management engineering in Vienna with fun internships in Mercedes, Robert Bosch and MAN and two academic years in Rouen and Rio de Janeiro. However, I started my career in Morgan Stanley in 2007 a few months before the start of the financial crisis. I still remember the time when everyone was watching the share price of Lehman Brothers.

It was a good experience but a colleague from PUC Rio de Janeiro shared his enjoyment of doing a PhD and it was contagious. In 2009, I started working on my doctoral thesis at the chair of Ann-Kristin Achleitner. The topic was the financing of social enterprises. I continued as a post-doc at the chair of Stephan A. Jansen at the Zeppelin University at Lake Constance.

At the time, I was one of the few persons in Europe doing research on the financial structures of these enterprises. This led to a few projects doing policy work for the European Commission. Over the years, I have been 50 times to Brussels discussing policies and their implementation across programs as well as the evaluation.

Starting in Zeppelin University, I was asking for a 80% contract to have some time to work on ventures. Over the years, I have been involved in a Munich-based venture capital fund, a Vienna-based car garage, a London-based sportswear label with its own foundation, a Vienna-based furniture company, a Vienna-based retail store, a US-based mental health company and a Berlin-based mining company with planned operations in Western Africa.

After my time at the Zeppelin University I moved back to Vienna in 2016 to work on these streams: (1) Research & consulting and (2) ventures. That was also the start of the NGen Impact GmbH.

The research is mostly done at the European Center for Social Finance at the Munich Business School. Clients include among others the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Liberal Forum, the European Microfinance Network, the European Federation of Ethical and Alternative Banks and Financiers (FEBEA) and around 50 individual funds and foundations from Romania to Portugal and from Sweden to Greece.

Current ventures include Society Intelligence and SkillsLedger. Society Intelligence is a platform to track changes in society, while SkillsLedger is tracking the acquisition of micro-skills.

Consulting at NGen Impact is centered on the intersection of society, information systems and finance. Some topics include Ukrainian reconstruction, social defense, impact profiles of industries or sustainable finance.

In 2026, other people are also expected to join the company working on different topics.
